In 2022, after becoming wildly fed up with the endlessly similar options at supermarkets and health food shops, I started boycotting commercial cereals and granolas. They're either too cheap and full of crap, too expensive and still full of crap, or kind of healthy but a bit bland yet even still outrageously overpriced.

As a student at the time, I was often out of pocket as it was, and in the final push of finishing my degree, I also had a very real need for an endless supply of divinely crunchy goodness I could call a somewhat balanced meal. But the existing granola and cereal scene had left me underwhelmed, disappointed, broke, and desperate to find a solution.

Having always been an avid baker – even more so during my studies when being in the kitchen was a wonderful source of procrastination – I thought you know what, why don’t I just make some myself. So I did. And I’ve never bought granola since.

I started bringing small batches made in my home kitchen into work for my breakfasts. One day, my boss (a fantastic chef himself) was intrigued and asked to tried some. He demanded I bring more. And more. And more. After a while – and especially considering the amount I was making – it just made sense to bake bigger batches in the certified kitchen I was working in almost daily anyways.

It wasn’t, however, until March 2025, that I thought perhaps others might enjoy this granola as much as we do, too. After a lot of encouragement, I decided it was about time I get it on the shelves for the rest of the world to enjoy and write home about...and alas Clusterfunk was born!
